studies suggest that self-concept or self-discrepancy and social anxiety are useful in understanding academic adjustment of university students. However, there were few studies investigating the relations between the factors integrally. Based on the previous studies, we proposed a partial mediation model as an integrated model. The model hypothesized that self-discrepancy would predict academic adjustment through partial mediation of social anxiety. Using structural equation modeling(SEM), we evaluated the partial mediation model as well as full mediation model and simple effects model as two alternative models from a sample of 389 university students. SEM revealed that the partial mediation model fitted the data adequately and was superior to the two alternative models. These findings indicate that self-discrepancy predicts academic adjustment directly as well as indirectly, through mediation of social anxiety. Finally, the implications and the limitations of the present study were discussed.
